Interesting things for the elderly There are a number of projects within the town designed for the elderly and let me take this opportunity to bring a couple to the attention of the readers. On a Thursday afternoon there is a club called the Friendship Club and that runs from 2pm up to 4pm and at the moment it is mainly attended by ladies who join in a variety of friendly activities such as Bingo, or other various games just to maintain a level of friendship and then once a year there is a Christmas Party and in most years there is at least one outing to places like Rosemoor or other places of interest. The location of the club is in the Methodist Church Hall and costs a nominal £1 per week. Besides this there is another delightful set up called the Pensioners Outing Group and this consists of a series of coach outings throughout the year at a nominal cost of just £4 per trip. The trips can go to a variety of places from Ilfracombe to Newquay and even there is a mystery trip once a year which is kept quiet so that no one know where we are going until we actually get there. In addition to this there is also a highly recomended Christmas Party which takes place in the TVSC usually in early January. The trip is organised through Ron and Betty Sussex who live in Stonemans Lane and the actual locations of the trips results from a general meeting at the AGM when all members have an opportunity to put forward their personal preferences. This is a very pleasant way to enjoy a day out and many of us poor pensioners have the time of our life visiting places that we have not been to for many a year.
