Duke
of Edinburgh Award
The26 November saw
ten young people and adults from Great Torrington Open Duke of Edinburgh
award group set off on a trip to London, an adventure for us all in many
ways! Our award group was nominated for a National award held by the Children
and Young People now in association with Children's Workforce Development
Council; we fell into the volunteering and participation section. We were
informed that the GTS Open Award Group we in a short list to just seven,
this meant we got to attend the presentation evening held at the very
posh Hurlingham Club. The dress code required suits for the boys and dresses
for the girls, so we all looked smart and could hardly recognise each
other from our normal outdoor and walking clothes!
Unfortunately we didn't win this year's award, but to just be nominated
and short listed was a great honour and great achievement for all.
I would like to thank Mark Keeley for driving the mini bus for us and
also the Devon Youth Service for the nomination and funding for us to
be able to attend the event.
Keep up the hard work people and thank you everyone for your support for
our group.
Adults and young people attended were,
Abbey Durrans, Nick Muir, Sally Yoe, Cathrine Grigg, James Britton, Tom
Biggs, Annie Ritson, Josh Warren, Jamie Bennett and Laura Bennett
We also have some young adults who have completed their Duke of Edinburgh
award this month, they are:

the Devon Gold achievers presentation County Hall Exeter. Out of 85 county
Gold achievers we had six and all attended this presentation. The six
