Local Woman Runs
to End Domestic Violence
Local lady, Lorraine Vanstone of Torrington is undertaking
a challenging 10k run on 12th July 2009 to raise funds for Women's Aid.
Lorraine is supporting Women's Aid vital work with women and children
escaping domestic violence. Women's Aid support, on average, up to 250,000
women and children each year.
Over the last eight years, the British 10k London Run has provided an
opportunity for tens of thousands of individuals from Great Britain and
around the world to take part in the totally unique unrivalled experience
of running the world's greatest race route through the heart of London,
passing many of the world's most famous historic and iconic landmarks.
Lorraine will be raising much-needed funds and awareness for Women's Aid.
Lorraine says, "Domestic Violence is a serious problem, with one
in four experiencing it during her lifetime. It is shocking that in today's
society, two women are killed every week by a violent partner or ex-partner.
I am running for Women's Aid to give abused women and children a voice
and the chance for a better life."
Lorraine is taking part in this event for the first time. She is confident
she will complete the run and hopes that local people will show their
support by sponsoring her. Lorraine is hoping to raise over £1000.00
and would greatly appreciate any contributions.
Women's Aid is the main organisation in the UK helping women and children
experiencing physical, sexual or emotional abuse in their homes.
