Abbeyfield Week and Open Day 2009

Abbeyfield is probably the largest voluntary sector provider of housing and care for older people in the United Kingdom with some 450 supported sheltered houses and 80 care homes. The houses are managed by professional staff and volunteer committees, providing support, care, and friendship to over 8,000 residents. The charity's main purposes are to avoid loneliness and to preserve independence. This is achieved by providing small community houses where each resident has a self- contained bed-sit or flat with its own bathroom and locked front door, which is furnished by the resident. The houses have lounges where residents can talk together and a dining room where the Housekeeper provides two cooked meals daily.
Abbeyfield Societies and houses throughout the United Kingdom are holding events during Abbeyfield Week 2009 between Saturday 6th and Sunday 14th June.
The Abbeyfield house in Torrington is at Glen Tor, Villa Road. For information please contact the house on 01805 625605 or John Portman on 01805 625455.
As part of the Abbeyfield Week there will be an Open Day on Saturday 6th June between 10.00am and 12 noon or 2.30pm and 4.30pm
Please do visit the House to meet our residents, to see the house, and to find out about the Abbeyfield movement.
